Where Your Inner Spark Meets Timeless Beauty

At The House of Ember, every story begins with a spark — a desire to feel beautiful, confident, and connected. Founded by award-winning artist Alissa Walker, our space was created to blend artistry, wellness, and education into one transformative experience. Here, every treatment and training is designed to help you look radiant, feel renewed, and reignite the fire within.

Meet Alissa Walker

For over 16 years, our founder has been redefining beauty through artistry, education, and passion. As an award-winning makeup artist, permanent makeup artist, and licensed aesthetician, she’s built her career on one guiding belief — that everyone carries a glow within them, and sometimes, all it takes is a little care to rekindle it into a flame again.

Alissa is an alumna of Albion College and the Douglas J Aveda Institute.

Her expertise extends beyond the treatment room — she’s a mentor and educator dedicated to helping other beauty professionals succeed through hands-on training and business guidance.

It is her mission to bring knowledge and power to our clients through education and by providing client-focused solutions. Her vision with each client is to provide a flawless finish while highlighting their natural beauty. When Alissa is not in studio, she can be found spending time with my hubby and our two sons...wearing a top knot and makeup free!

At The House of Ember, our mission is simple: to create a space where luxury feels personal, where artistry meets intention, and where every guest — whether client or student — leaves feeling renewed, empowered, and inspired.

“Every person carries a glow – a fire, within them. My mission is to help reignite that ember — through beauty, connection, and the confidence that comes from feeling truly seen and cared for.”

Alissa Walker

Founder of The House of Ember

"Alissa is wonderful and her space is beautiful and clean. I was very nervous because my brows are extremely light and I've never had them done. She was reassuring and knowledgeable and I am so glad I trusted her! My brows came out absolutely beautiful, better than I thought possible! As an esthetician myself I have a high standard of care and Alissa exceeded expectations. Highly recommend!"

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent technique that deposits pigment into the upper layer of the skin, creating soft, hair-like strokes that mimic your natural brows. It helps correct, enhance, or reconstruct your brows — giving the illusion of fullness and a natural lift.

What are Nano Brows?

Nano Brows use the latest technology to create the same beautiful, hair-like effect as microblading — but with less trauma to the skin. It’s gentler, longer-lasting, and perfect for those who want a soft yet defined brow finish.

What is Powder Fill or Shading?

Powder fill brows create the look of filled-in makeup, while shading offers a softer, more natural gradient. You can also combine microblading with shading for a hybrid style that balances both definition and texture.

What is Lip Blushing?

Lip Blushing is a semi-permanent technique that enhances your lip's color, shape, and symmetry — giving them a natural, soft tint and more youthful appearance. Imagine waking up with perfectly tinted lips every day!

How Long Do the Brows Last?

Microblading typically lasts 9–18 months, depending on your skin type, age, and aftercare. Nano and powder brows may last longer — up to 3 years — with proper maintenance and color boosts.

How Long Does Lip Blushing Last?

Lip Blushing results usually last 1–3 years before a touch-up or color boost is needed.

Do I Need Touch-Ups or Color Boosts?

Yes! We recommend touch-ups every 1-2 years to maintain your shape and color. Although, we do have many clients who are able to go over 2-3 years in between color boosts. Over time, pigment naturally fades as the skin regenerates.

Does It Hurt?

Our clients often describe the sensation as mild or tolerable — more like light pressure or scratching rather than pain. Everyone’s comfort level is different, and we do our best to ensure a relaxing experience throughout your appointment.

(Note: For lip blushing clients, a doctor’s prescription is required if numbing is desired.)

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Most PMU appointments take around 2 hours, including consultation, mapping, and treatment.

Do I Need a Consultation Before My Appointment?

No separate consultation is required. We’ll go through a full assessment and mapping process during your appointment to ensure the perfect shape and color for you. We work together with you during the process and have you approve the shape and color that we draw before we begin.

What Should I Do to Prepare?

Avoid tweezing, waxing, or using exfoliants like retinol a week before your appointment. Come with your natural brows visible — or bring photos of how you usually fill them in for reference.

We ask you to not drink caffeine or alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment to ensure the best results.

What Should I Expect After My Appointment?

Your brows or lips may appear darker or bolder for the first few days — this is normal and will lighten up to 60% as they heal. Slight redness or tightness may occur but will fade quickly.

Do I Need to Take Time Off Work?

No need! Redness and swelling are minimal, and you can return to regular activities the same day.

How Long Is the Healing Process?

Healing typically takes 7–14 days, though complete pigment settling can take several weeks.

What If I’ve Had Previous Brow Tattooing?

If you’ve had work done by another artist, please contact us before booking. We’ll assess whether a correction or cover-up is possible.

How Do You Choose My Shape and Color?

We use advanced brow mapping to measure your unique bone structure and facial symmetry. Your natural hair color and skin tone guide our pigment choice to ensure your brows look beautifully natural.

Is the Perfecting Session Necessary?

Yes! Microblading and Nano Brows are two-step processes. Your perfecting session (done 6–12 weeks after your first appointment) ensures long-lasting, even color and refined shape.

What Should I Avoid After the Procedure?

Keep the area clean and dry — no swimming, sweating, or saunas until healed. Avoid picking, peeling, or using exfoliants. Protect your brows with SPF and avoid direct sun exposure for the best results.
